Welcome

If you’re like most women, your day’s looked something like this so far:

  • Wake up (too) early
  • Greet the day (and your kids who are already begging for sugary cereal - who gave those kids coffee when you weren’t looking, anyway?)
  • Grab a shower (lock the door! there’s got to be some place you can have a moment alone… even if all the hot water’s already gone)
  • Get dressed (dig, dig, dig through that pile of laundry - there’s a bra in there somewhere!)
  • Off to the races!

Whether you work outside the home, stay home with kids, or have managed to design some other schedule that’s so amazing the rest of us might be jealous, there’s still one thing we’ve got in common…

We are today’s women. We’re doing our best to make life great for ourselves and those around us. We’re making it happen - every day.

So this blog’s for you.

A chance to kick back (even for just a minute or two), to connect, to chuckle, to get some good tips and tricks, and to celebrate being a woman.

And hey, we all know how hard it can be to get your two cents in throughout the day - it’s an amazing thing to be heard.

So, here’s your chance. Sound off, vent, boast, or just ask what you’ve always wanted to know - this is your site, and your few minutes.

Make it a great day!

Fashion + Beauty

If you are like most women, you love your shoes.

Shoes

Shoes

In fact, you probably have several pairs in your closet.

What is it about these two small foot coverings that send us to the moon? Far be it from me to guess your reasons, but for most of us shoes are better than gold.

There is a shoe for every outfit, and for every foot. High heels are the number one choice for the board room, and the nightclub.

Why?

Let’s admit it. They make our legs look longer, classier, and sexier. And to continue on with our honesty streak, high heels are meant to please our man as much as they do us.

Why else would we continue to wear them and endure sore feet?

Without the right shoe, everything you wear is less interesting. That gives you a great excuse to head for the nearest mall, purchase a new dress, and then get yourself some new pumps to complete the effect.

Face it.

Shopping for shoes offers a great excuse to spend some time with your friends, while the kids are home with Dad.

Fall is the time when you shed your toe-bearing sandals for spectacular foot-covering boots in a plethora of shades and styles. Earth tones are in this year, along with faux hiking boots. Traditional high heels and leather and suede will keep your feet warm, while making you look great.

So… what are you waiting for? There’s a whole new lineup of Fall shoes out there.

Thrift Stores: Vintage vs. Mainstream

So much emphasis is placed on appearance in our culture. It seems like every year that goes by brings more focus onto fashion and trend. Designer labels matter more and more, but who has the funding to keep up with their fashion demands? That’s why so many women have turned away from the mainstream threads and started shopping in consignment shops and thrift stores.

Thrift stores are full of undiscovered treasures. If you dedicate a little bit of time and patience, you can find some truly amazing things in thrift stores. The best part about the clothes in a thrift store has got to be the price. You pay a highly reduced price for brand name clothes. Outfits that would have cost way more on the rack in the mall are available to you for no more than a few dollars in a thrift store.

Some of you might be wondering what the difference is between a consignment shop and a thrift store. Both sell slightly worn clothing for reduced prices, but the main thing that sets a consignment shop apart is the quality of clothes. Consignment shops are usually somewhat selective and tend to offer a more vintage line of clothing. You are more likely to find designer labels and name brand items in a consignment shop. You are also more likely to find higher prices than you would at any average thrift store.

It all depends on what you are willing to pay. Either way, both consignment shops and thrift stores are great alternatives to the high prices of main stream clothing.

Be Nice To Your Hair

It’s easy to mistreat your hair. Although you may devote a lot of time and energy to styling it in different ways, you can never afford to forget how much damage you may be doing to your hair. Modern products can put strain on your hair, leaving it dry or brittle.

It’s important to use a solid conditioner a few times a week. This will ensure your hair has a healthy shine and a glossy tone. Conditioning is particularly important if you have frizzy or unmanageable hair. In fact, it has been recommended that people with frizzy hair condition twice after each shampoo. Because shampoo makes hair brittle, you must use two times the amount of conditioner just to achieve a regular sheen.

The key to proper hair care is to find out what type of hair you have. It may sound like a silly thing to ask, but remember that every person’s hair is different. This means that every hair treatment must be unique. If you have curly hair, you should learn how to work with the curls rather than against them. Do you hate or love your curls? Do you want smooth waves or tight ringlets? If you have straight hair, do you want more body? Is your hair too flat or one dimensional?

Curling irons can be great tools for all hair types. People with straight hair can use them to liven up their styles, while people with curly hair can use irons to reshape their tangled natural curls. Regardless of hair type, you should always remember to treat your hair well and condition it after styling.

Bring Out Your Best Features!

When you think of makeup, it probably seems like a simple concept. But it’s important to make sure you know what kinds of makeup suit you before you rush into things.

Since every woman’s face is different, it makes sense that every woman would need makeup unique to her personal contours. Face shape, complexion and eye color are three of the most important factors to consider when thinking about your makeup.

Your complexion is the basis for all your makeup decisions. Your coloring determines the choices for the shading of your eye shadow, as well as the intensity of any foundation you use.

If you have a fair complexion, you should stick to a spectrum of lighter pinks in your blush. Your eye shadow should be based in earth tones, from natural greens to gentle browns and soft blues.

Fair skinned girls should also treat their lips to vibrant colors. Often bold reds are a good way to go.

If you have a darker complexion, you should choose colors with more metallic tones. Gold and copper are usually smart choices to highlight the natural layers of coloring in darker faces.

Lastly, eye color and shape can determine the choices you make with your eye shadow.

Your eyes are the most dramatic facial features you have, and you should take advantage of them!

If you have somewhat narrow eyes, you need to be careful about the amount of makeup you apply to your eyes. Too much mascara and eye shadow can smother the natural beauty of your eyes.

Fuller eyes can afford a heavier application of makeup.
