Diet, It Doesn’t Have to be Boring

Whenever you hear the word diet, you probably think of hunger, pains and boring food.

Face it. Drinking a protein shake and counting calories is just not fun.

Is it possible to lose weight, eat healthy, and enjoy the whole process?

Of course it is. It just takes some imagination.

Before you even begin the process of shaping up your body and your diet, you need to change your views on eating.

Part of the problem with diets is that they fail. But if we take the word “diet” and change its meaning in our minds, we can put a positive spin on the idea. Don’t think of diet as starvation or hunger. Instead, change the definition to mean healthy eating habits. You need food to live. That’s not a sin. Traditional diets are sinful because they deprive you of nutrition.

Okay. Let’s get started. To succeed in this process, you have to think about the reasons you want to change your life. It can’t just be about weight loss. You have to think about your health as well. Write down your reasons for eating healthy in a notebook, sign it and date it. You have just made a commitment to yourself to live better.

Now, you have to plan how to eat.

Instead of grabbing the first thing you see in the refrigerator or stopping at the fast food window, brown bag it for lunch. Make a shopping list that includes foods you like that are healthy. Throw in healthy salad dressings and other condiments and spices to liven up the flavor.

Finally, go shopping and get started.

Don’t Eat Less; Just Eat Well!

Nutrition is very important to a healthy lifestyle. Modern diets are usually based on the idea of eating less, instead of eating better. This can be a dangerous way to approach weight loss. If you cut out important nutritional factors in your diet, you risk denying your body the natural supplements it needs to function. This poor nutrition can lead to bad health, especially later on in life.

A healthy diet is a diet that offers you a variety of food groups. Variety is also key to maintaining a healthy diet. If you eat a lot of different kinds of healthy food, you won’t get bored with your food plans. It’s important to be informed about what you are eating before you eat it. The nutritional facts about every food product can be found on the side label of the packaging. But if you don’t know what you’re looking at, the information is worthless.

Calorie. It’s a word most of us hear every day, but do we really understand the definition? A calorie is a unit of energy. You don’t have to cut calories out of your diet to lose weight. People assume that calories are what produce fat, and that foods with high calorie content should be avoided altogether. But your body needs calories to produce energy. And as odd as it may sound, your body needs fat too. You can’t cut out any of these factors completely, because your body needs them all. You just have to examine the nutritional facts to make sure that you are getting them in moderation and not in excess.

Active Women

Fitness is one of the most important parts of living a healthy lifestyle. You need to stay active to keep your body functioning properly. Smart eating habits are just the first steps to staying fit. Exercise is important to physical fitness, as well as emotional and mental wellness. You just feel better when you work out. You are less stressed because you’ve been releasing endorphins, and you are more confident about the way you look.

But we all know how hard it is to find the time to exercise. Whether you are occupied with your children, your career, your education, or all three, you know that exercise can get put on the backburner. Maybe you don’t want to join a gym. Maybe you did join the gym and you never have the time to go. It all depends on your personal situation, but the fact remains that exercise can fit into any schedule if you have the dedication.

Don’t assume that exercise needs to happen in a scheduled way. It’s often impossible to set aside a specific chunk of “work out time”. Instead, integrate physical activity into your daily life. Park further away when you go to the grocery store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Simple choices in your everyday life can promote physical fitness as a lifestyle. If you don’t like the thought of exercise, start out slow and don’t go it alone. Take a short walk in the evening with a friend. Go for a bike ride with your children. Whatever you do, make sure it’s fun!
