Food: Lunch on the Go

Lunch on the Go!

Lunch on the Go!

Are you brown bagging it for lunch?

If so, you’re saving a lot of money, and eating healthier.

Most people think of sandwiches or leftovers for lunch. After a while, sandwiches and leftovers get boring.

Maybe you’re one of many who hit the drive through window for lunch.

Besides costing you an arm and a leg, fast food is unhealthy. Many of these tasty lunches pack a hefty 500 to 800 calories per serving. It’s no wonder that people who make a daily habit of grabbing lunch at these fine dining institutions pack on the pounds if they are not careful.

How can you make lunch interesting without taking a lot of time?

There are many things that you can do to eat healthy without spending hours in preparation.

One of the most obvious things you can do for lunch is buying the time-tested TV dinner. You might be asking, “Is this person crazy? TV dinners are full of preservatives and salt. That’s not healthy.” While that may be true of most TV dinners, fortunately for the lunch eating crowd, there are healthy alternatives.

Several companies make low-sodium microwavable lunches. Just read the labels. When your favorite store is having a sale, stock up and put them in the freezer.

If you like salad, make your own easy taco salad. Get some romaine lettuce and put it in a bowl. Add some chicken strips. Top it off with salsa, guacamole, a few tortilla chips, and low-fat sour cream. Voila. You now have a healthy lunch that is easy to prepare.

Now dream up some of your own recipes.
