Aging: Embracing the Change

We are bombarded daily with ads promoting the latest anti-aging product and treatment. It has now reached the stage where aging is seen as a disease to be kept at bay at all cost. But this doesn’t have to be so.

So how can you accept the process and age gracefully? Well, there are a number of ways that can slow the process. Haven’t ever seen someone and said, “Wow, you don’t look your age”. You too can defy the odds if you take time to just learn how.

The first step to learning how to age gracefully is to realise that aging is a natural part of life. If we don’t die young we are going to get old. However, you need to accept this fact and develop the right frame of mind for it.

To combat the two major issues with aging calls for developing a good skincare routine and an exercise program. A good skincare regimen will help minimize the development of wrinkles early on. It’s all well and good to love the sun, but take precautions, or you will pay for your sun worshipping later on. Use lots of sunscreen and moisturizers, even if you are dark-skinned.

Exercise will not only make you feel better about yourself as you age, but will also keep you healthier. Now, don’t see the word exercise and think of strenuous workouts at the gym. It can be as simple as walking briskly for 30 minutes everyday.

How about what you eat? A balanced diet is a great way to keep skin looking younger and healthier. Some nutrients known to help skin are selenium, vitamin C and E, and beta-carotene. Do stock up on your tuna, raw nuts and seeds, oranges, peppers, and of course carrots. Most importantly, do not ever forget your water.

The fewer processed foods consumed the better for your skin – think natural.
